Bad Luck Strikes at Lonesome Pine Raceway

Another week where rain washed out qualifying for the Allison Legacy cars as this time the series visited Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, VA. After a good practice session, Josh Butler lined up the Horizon Technologies/Conterra Ultra Broadband Monte Carlo 14th to start the race. The first few laps saw Josh drop back while he looked for a hole on the tight race track, where passing was tough all day. On lap 22, Josh was running 13th for a restart when the cars in front of him bunched up…each running into the other. Josh did a good job of getting his car slowed down; however, the car behind him didn’t see what was happening and ran hard into the back of the #11. The contact spun Josh and then the same car continued forward and took off the front bumper cover and half of the right fender.

Josh was called to pit road for repairs and returned to the track in 29th position and without much of the front of the car. Josh worked hard to pick up as many positions as possible over the closing 13 laps…finally crossing the finish line 21st. The finish moved him up one spot in the points to 18th.

Josh Butler on Saturday’s race: “The car was really good overall but the track was tough to pass on and everyone seemed to just be holding their place. I feel like we could have possibly made our way into the top ten, but the damage to the car took all hopes of that away. It was a disappointing finish; however, we showed again that we have a great car and we can run well. (Crew Chief) Blake Harris did a great job working with me all day to make the changes I needed and we are working together well. I’m looking forward to Concord, we are going to test there on the 26th and run there this Saturday…I hear it is a fast track and I’m excited about this race.”

The Legacy Series will run their fourth race of the season at Concord Motorsports Park on Saturday night (April 29th) with a 50 lap feature at 5:00pm.
