Top Five and Rookie of the Race at Southern National

Horizon Technologies was the race sponsor and around 100 of Horizon’s employees and friends were on hand for the 50 lap Allison Legacy event at Southern National Raceway in Kenly on Saturday. Everyone was hoping for a good day when practice showed top five speeds for Josh in the Horizon Technologies/Conterra Ultra Broadband #11. Josh went out 21st for qualifying and put up a solid lap to put him third on the grid…he would start 4th for the event as one more car would be quicker before qualifying was done. As the green flag fell, Josh found a hole in 5th and raced there for the entire 50 laps. After two straight races with problems…both ending in a wrecked race car…it was good to have a solid, uneventful run. Josh pressured the 4th place car for the last 30 laps of the race; however, progress that he made in turns 3 & 4 was lost in turns 1 & 2 and the cars ran bumper to bumper with good, aggressive, clean racing. In the end Josh got his first top five of the Allison Legacy Season and was the Rookie of the Race as the top finishing rookie driver.

After the race, Josh and crew joined Steve Stallings (owner of Horizon Technologies) and all of the other guests in a very nice dinner and sponsor event. Josh got to meet with everyone, sign some autographs and had a lot of kids (and wannabe kids) sit in the race car.

Josh on Saturday’s run: “It was great to get our first top five in front of everyone from Horizon Technologies. Mr. Stallings has done a lot for us and I can’t thank him enough…the event after the race was a lot of fun and I’m glad that I got the chance to meet with everyone and that we ran well for them. My car was really good all day but we didn’t have anything for the top two or three cars…I really thought I could get by the 4th place car but didn’t want to push it and do something stupid. All in all, we had a great day…Blake worked really hard to make sure the car was good all day and we almost hit it perfect.”

With an off weekend in the Legacy schedule, Josh will head north to run the Boardman License Bureau/Ainsley Heating & Cooling #52 E-mod at Tri-City Speedway in Franklin, PA. The race will be Sunday afternoon…check back on Monday July 31st for an update.
